Proportional response photon counter
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1980A scintillation counter whose detection efficiency is linearly proportional to the energy of the interacting photon has been developed by combining a suitable filter with a conventional NaI(Tl) crystal. A general theory has been developed from which the material and optimum filter thickness for a particular crystal valid for a certain photon energy ...

Operation of Proportional Counters
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1941The operation of proportional counters is described. The voltage region for proportional operation is determined, and a procedure is described for determination of the amount of ionization in the initial ionizing event.

The sensitivity of astronomical observations in the soft X-ray band has been increased dramatically by the use of imaging optics and position sensitive focal plane detectors. The tremendous sensitivity increase of imaging telescopes compared with detectors with mechanical collimators has two reasons.

Boron trifluoride proportional counters
Proceedings of the IEE - Part B: Radio and Electronic Engineering, 1958The design and manufacture of a variety of types of boron-trifluoride proportional counter used by the U.K.A.E.A. are described. One basic design and method of assembly is used for the manufacture of counters of sizes ranging from ½ in diameter and a few inches long to 2 in diameter and several feet long.

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1948
Some properties of proportional counters using air at atmospheric pressure are described. It is shown that a variety of counter designs may be developed which are stable both with and without thin windows. A few counter designs which have applications in the detection of alpha-radioactive contamination are discussed in detail.

Point anode proportional counters
Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1963An experimental investigation of point anode proportional counters is described. The point to end-window distance is found to be an important parameter in determining counter performance. A resolution of 21% at 6 kev can be achieved with an end window 7/8 in. in diameter in a counter of internal dimensions only 1 in. × 1 3/8 in.

Sewing-Needle Proportional Counter
American Journal of Physics, 1957A simple proportional counter made from common materials, and supplied with high voltage by a circuit made from automotive ignition parts, is described and investigated. Alpha particles from Po210 are shown to give up to 25-volt pulses, while beta rays from Cs137 produce signals with amplitudes up to 2 volts without the use of any external ...

Delays in proportional counters
Physica, 1957Synopsis Delays in proportional counters, filled with A alcohol, A n-pentane, Kr alcohol, Kr n-pentane and Xe n-pentane mixtures, are determined in dependency of the voltage on the counters. From these data the values of the electron mobilities are derived in the region of F/p at about 0.1 or 0.2.

High-Pressure Proportional Counter
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1957A large-volume high-pressure proportional counter used in a study of the ionization energy losses of mu mesons is described. The details of construction for operation at approximately one hundred atmospheres pressure are given.
