Rod-shaped Proppant Provides Superior Proppant Flowback Control in the Egyptian Eastern Desert

SPE Unconventional Gas Conference and Exhibition, 2013
Abstract The Arta field in the Egyptian eastern desert produces mainly from the Nukhul formation that is characterized as a complex, thin-bedded sequence with heterogeneous laminated siltstone. Typical reservoirs show low-to-average permeability, low temperatures and moderately heavy oil in the 17-24 degree API range.

Prediction of Long-Term Proppant Flowback in Weak Rocks

Proceedings of SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference, 2007
Abstract Proppant flowback is an extremely important phenomenon in hydraulic fracturing technology and may cause severe problems for well completion. Various models have been developed to predict the onset of proppant flowback but the physics of the phenomenon has still to be understood to predict the amount of proppant flowback during ...

Mitigating Proppant Flowback through Surface Treatment of Proppant-Laboratory Studies and Field Performance

SPE International Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference and Exhibition, 2018
Abstract Post stimulation proppant flowback can be a serious problem after the hydraulic fracturing process and can cause a variety of issues like: reduced fracture propping resulting in decreased conductivity and hydrocarbon production;erosion related damage to surface and downhole equipment; and increased costs in dealing with ...

New Technique for Proppant Flowback and Improved Fracture Conductivities

Proceedings of SPE Latin American and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference, 2001
Abstract Flowback of fracturing proppant during production is a common problem. The consequences of this can be extremely serious. Loss of fracture conductivity can occur due to reduced width, which can be further compounded by partial plugging of the pack by proppant fines.

Proppant Distribution and Flowback in Off-Balance Hydraulic Fractures

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2004
Abstract The vast majority of industrial hydraulic fractures propagate in off-balance mode, where the fracture is not in a single plane, includes many shear fractures and branches, and is shorter and narrower than computed by existing models.

Simulating Proppant Flowback for Conventional, Screenless and Multizonal Fracpack Using Novel Resin Coated Proppant

SPE International Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference and Exhibition
Abstract Brown fields with unconsolidated reservoirs often produce high amount of sand and fines. Typical conventional screened Multizone Single Trip (MZST) completion technique is cost-intensive and erodes project economics. Screenless fracpack via frac sleeves offers a solution to significantly reduce well cost while at the same time ...
