Thermo‐Hydrodynamic Processes of Microparticles in Fractures: A CFD–DEM Approach
ABSTRACT Controlling fracture permeability plays a critical role in subsurface energy applications, particularly in geothermal energy production and enhanced carbon sequestration, where regulating fluid flow is essential. The use of microcapsules has become a promising solution to enhance fracture permeability by providing a controlled sealing ...

It is known that much of the technology aimed at intensifying fluid inflow by means of hydraulic fracturing involves the use of proppant. In order to transport and position grains in the fracture, a uniform supply of proppant with a given concentration ...

The key parameters of proppant transport in complex fractures [PDF]
The proppant transport in complex fracture has been a hot area of research. Via optimizing the pumping parameters, like pump rate and proppant type, the proppant packing efficiency will be improved in the branch fractures, by which the stimulation results will be enhanced.

Nordgren PINNs to VQE: Advancing Hydraulic Fracturing Simulations in Shale Reservoirs
ABSTRACT This study advances hydraulic fracturing simulations in shale reservoirs using two computational paradigms, Physics‐Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) and the Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE). PINNs were employed to solve Nordgren's equation, which governs fracture width evolution, by embedding physical laws into the neural network ...

The price responsiveness of shale producers: Evidence from micro data
We show that U.S. shale oil producers exhibit a high degree of short‐run price responsiveness, primarily through the timing of well completions and refracturing. Using a novel monthly well‐level panel covering over 120,000 shale wells across ten states from 2005 to 2019, we document significant supply adjustments to price signals.

Quantitative and visual analysis of proppant transport in rough fractures
Abstract The consensus reached in the literature is that the roughness of fractures plays a crucial role on proppant transport affecting the aperture sustainability and conductivity of hydraulic fractures. To clarify this, an experimental scheme and analysis are presented in this paper. Propping agents were introduced into seven different transparent

Abstract The migration‐clogging‐sealing process of microparticle suspensions in constricted channels is highly relevant to geotechnical, hydraulic, and environmental engineering. In this study, a coupled lattice Boltzmann‐discrete element method is employed, incorporating dense‐particle corrections into the classical partially saturated method and ...
