Resolving Created, Propped, and Effective Hydraulic Fracture Length

Proceedings of International Petroleum Technology Conference, 2008
Summary Recent advances in hydraulic-fracture-mapping technologies have provided a wealth of information on the created fracture length in numerous geologic settings. Before having such measurements, fracture length was estimated using "uncalibrated" fracture-propagation models, but there was significant uncertainty in the results that ...

Effect Of Gelled Fracturing Fluids On The Conductivity Of Propped Fractures

Annual Technical Meeting, 1990
Abstract Successful stimulation of an oil or gas well by a hydraulic fracturing treatment is largely dependent on obtaining a propped fracture with adequate fracture conductivity. The fracture conductivity is influenced by the reservoir environment following a hydraulic fracturing treatment.

Propped Fracture Conductivity in Shales

Volume 6: Polar and Arctic Sciences and Technology; Offshore Geotechnics; Petroleum Technology Symposium, 2013
The successful development of the major shale gas plays in North America hinges upon the creation of complicated fracture networks by pumping low viscosity fracturing fluid with low proppant concentrations at high flow rate. Direct laboratory measurement of hydraulic fracture conductivity created in the networks is needed for reliable well performance ...

Realistic Fracture Conductivities of Propped Hydraulic Fractures

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1993
ABSTRACT Preliminary results of an experimental programme to determine the significance of dual phase flow in propped fractures are presented. Gas-water flows are considered. The results demonstrate that, even in cases of minimal water production, effective permeabilities may typically be reduced by a factor of 2, or more.

Asymmetrically Propped Hydraulic Fractures

SPE Production & Facilities, 1996
SummaryMapping during and after mining of four hydraulic fractures placed in the German Creek coal seam of the Bowen Basin in Queensland, Australia, revealed that in all four cases the fractures were propped asymmetrically. Three treatments resulted in vertical fractures and one resulted in a T-shaped but mostly horizontal fracture.

Propped Fracturing in Deep Naturally-Fractured Tight Carbonate Reservoirs

SPE Russian Petroleum Technology Conference, 2018
Abstract Over the last ten years, thirty wells were performed by proppant fracturing in deep naturally fractured tight carbonate reservoir in Tarim oilfield, including twenty-two hydraulic fracturing wells and eight acid-carrying-proppant fracturing wells.

Permeability-Friction Relationships for Propped Fractures in Shale

56th U.S. Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium, 2022
ABSTRACT: We investigate controls on fluid transfer into massive hydraulic fractures due to reactivation of, and proppant penetration into, oblique fractures transecting the main fracture face during long-term reservoir depletion through tightly constrained laboratory experiments.

Detecting the propped fracture by injection of magnetic proppant during fracturing

GEOPHYSICS, 2019
Hydraulic fracturing is key to enhancing the productivity of shale and tight hydrocarbon reservoirs, as well as geothermal resources from hot dry rock. Assessing the range and efficiency of hydraulic fracturing is very important for onsite fracturing operations and decision making on subsequent fracturing plans and well-pattern deployment. The idea of

EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF FRACTURING FLUID INTERACTION WITH TIGHT RESERVOIR ROCKS AND PROPPED FRACTURES

Proceedings of Symposium on Low Permeability Gas Reservoirs, 1979
Abstract Prediction of gas well production after a Massive Hydraulic Fracture (MHF) treatment is essential for economic assessment of the planned stimulation. Present accepted techniques of predicting the Present accepted techniques of predicting the increase in production (stimulation ratio) are based on the ...

Propping Agent Transport in Horizontal Fractures

Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1966
Abstract This laboratory flow study covers propping agent transport in horizontal fractures as influenced by the characteristics of the propping particles, fluid and fracture. Correlations are presented for the transport of particles, deposition and fingering through dunes.
