Age-related proprioceptive decline is not seen in lifelong skiing and snowboarding participants: Lessons for balanced active healthy ageing

open access: yesJSAMS Plus, 2022
Objectives: Ankle proprioception is important for effective human movement and thus active healthy aging. Chronic ankle instability (CAI) may be a contributing factor in proprioception decline. Proprioception and aging research indicate that there is age-

The Arm Motion (AMD) Detection Test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Stroke can lead to sensory deficits that impair functional control of arm movements. Here we describe a simple test of arm motion detection (AMD) that provides an objective, quantitative measure of movement perception related proprioceptive capabilities ...

Toward Autonomous Self‐Healing in Soft Robotics: A Review and Perspective for Future Research

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
In this article, five different phases (damage detection, cleaning, damage closure, material healing, and healing assessment) are investigated to have an autonomous self‐healing at the system level with the focus on soft robotics. It delves into the importance of each phase, why and where they matter, and reviews relevant technologies that enable ...

A Multivariate Method for Dynamic System Analysis: Multivariate Detrended Fluctuation Analysis Using Generalized Variance

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Fractal fluctuations are a core concept for inquiries into human behavior and cognition from a dynamic systems perspective. Here, we present a generalized variance method for multivariate detrended fluctuation analysis (mvDFA). The advantage of this extension is that it can be applied to multivariate time series and considers intercorrelation ...

A Wearable Soft Actuator for Directional Tactile Stimulation: Design and Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A wearable actuator able to produce directional tactile stimulation is obtained by embedding a planar shape memory spring in silicone matrix. The matrix is designed taking into account skin characteristics and leveraging its multifunctionality: it acts as a bias load, improves the thermal behavior of the spring and wearability.

The Parallel Architecture in Language and Elsewhere

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract The Parallel Architecture is a conception of the organization of the mental representations involved in language and of the role of language in the mind as a whole. Its basic premise is that linguistic representations draw on three independent generative systems—phonological, syntactic, and semantic structures—plus a system of interface links ...
