Multimode Adaptive Thermoregulation Enabled by Shape Morphing and Radiative Cooling Porous Polyurethane

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A shape‐morphing, porous polyurethane film combines passive radiative cooling with folding to deliver multilevel heating‐and‐cooling control. High solar reflectance and midinfrared emissivity keep surfaces up to 3.5 °C cooler in direct sunlight, while photothermal triggering folds the film to absorb solar heat.

Highly Stable Low‐Temperature Phosphate Glass as a Platform for Multimaterial 3D Printing of Integrated Functional Microfluidic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A highly stable, low‐temperature phosphate glass is developed for multimaterial additive manufacturing of multifunctional microfluidics. Glass, metal conductors, and sacrificial polymer are coprinted, enabling monolithic fabrication. The sacrificial paste forms precise channels and decomposes during sintering.

On wave-driven propulsion

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics
A theory is presented for wave-driven propulsion of floating bodies driven into oscillation at the fluid interface. By coupling the equations of motion of the body to a quasipotential flow model of the fluid, we derive expressions for the drift speed and propulsive thrust of the body which in turn are shown to be consistent with global momentum ...

Enhanced Mechanical and Shape Memory Properties of Laser Direct Energy Deposited CoCrFeMn High Entropy Alloy by Carbon Addition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Feasibility of improving the mechanical and shape‐memory properties of a CoCrFeMn high‐entropy alloy through carbon addition is investigated. The recovery strain of the carbon‐containing alloy is approximately four to five times higher than that of the carbon‐free alloy.

A quantum propulsion method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Experimental proof of concept for a new propulsion method is presented. Ammonia gas (NH3) is exposed to a strong electric field aiming to align the orientation of the polar molecules. This results in partial alignment of the quantum tunneling of nitrogen atoms, specific for the ammonia, creating bias in the pressure distribution and a resultant force ...

Ultrahigh Piezoelectricity in Truss‐Based Ferroelectric Ceramics Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
By leveraging the unique combination of polarization direction and loading state, ultrahigh piezoelectricity is achieved through careful tuning of the relative density and scaling ratio in truss‐based ferroelectric metamaterials. This approach enables the simultaneous realization of extremely high piezoelectric constants and ultralow dielectric ...
