Multidimensional Cellular Micro‐Compartments to Model Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Dormancy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) is an understudied subtype of breast cancer that is susceptible to late recurrences. In this study, micro‐compartmentalization techniques spanning multiple dimensions, including 2D, pseudo‐3D, and 3D, are integrated to uncover the mechanisms underlying ILC dormancy, revealing the central role of p27Kip1.

Long-range spontaneous droplet self-propulsion on wettability gradient surfaces

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The directional and long-range droplet transportation is of great importance in microfluidic systems. However, it usually requires external energy input.

Spontaneous Helical Alignment of Smooth Muscle Cells to Form a Medial Layer for Engineered Microvasculature

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Spontaneous helical alignment of smooth muscle cells is induced within resistance‐vessel‐sized channels patterned within a hydrogel. The extent of the cells’ orientation angle is dependent on the presence and composition of ECM proteins lining the channel wall and cell seeding density.

Small molecule propulsion driven by solvent-mediated ultrafast energy transfer from vibrations to self-translation

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Despite its interest, self-propulsion at the molecular scale remains an open challenge. In this work, we demonstrate through all-atom molecular dynamics simulations that vibrational excitation of the amphiphilic molecule nitromethane (CH_{3}NO_{2}) in ...

Harnessing the Propulsive Force of Microalgae with Microtrap to Drive Micromachines

open access: yesSmall
AbstractMicroorganisms possess remarkable locomotion abilities, making them potential candidates for micromachine propulsion. Here, the use of Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii (CR) is explored, a motile green alga, as a micromotor by harnessing its propulsive force with microtraps. The objectives include developing the microtrap structure, evaluating trapping

Standardized Effect Measures Informing Next‐Generation Strategies for Mechanical Stimulation in Cartilage Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This systematic review quantitatively compares conventional mechanical stimulation strategies in cartilage tissue engineering across 85 heterogeneous in vitro studies. Applying standardized effect measures, meta‐analysis reveals that combined compression and shear loading optimally promotes cartilage matrix development.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

ANALYSIS OF DRIVING FORCE IN WHEELCHAIR PROPULSION USING THE DRIVING FORCE CONTRIBUTION FIGURE [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose the concept of the driving force contribution figure(DFCF)to clarify how efficient the user accomplishes the wheelchair propulsion. The DFCF expresses the direction cosine of generated force on the handrim to the tangential direction.
