Propulsive Performances of Pulsed Detonations
Combustion Science and Technology, 1999The propulsive potential of a reactive mixture that uses detonation as a combustion process is studied. An experimental set up is built up to determine the thrust and the impulse developed in single and multi-operating cycles by the detonation products of a reactive mixture contained in a cylindrical combustion chamber (CC).

Effect of trailing-edge shape on the self-propulsive performance of heaving flexible plates
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2020The effect of trailing-edge shape on the self-propulsive performance of three-dimensional flexible plates is studied numerically. In our study, the trailing edges of the plates are symmetric chevron shapes, and the trailing-edge angle $\unicode[STIX ...

Propulsion and aerodynamic performance evaluation of jet-wing distributed propulsion
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2010Distributed propulsion is the idea of redistributing the thrust across the drag producing elements of a vehicle. Our configuration has a modest number of engines with part of the exhaust flow vented from thick trailing edges of the wings to cancel the local profile drag and the rest of the exhaust flow providing thrust to cancel the induced drag and ...

Performance of synchronized fins in biomimetic propulsion
Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, 2015By using a two-dimensional model of ray fins, we numerically investigate the thrust generation by closely-coupled fins with an immersed boundary approach. The concentration is on the performance enhancement through fin-fin interactions and the underlying vortex control mechanisms in three representative systems, a two-fin tandem configuration, a two ...

Titan III propulsion system performance evaluation.
Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1968An acceleration- based procedure for accurate determination of propulsion system performance from flight daja is described in this paper. The procedure emplpys iteration techniques to achieve a weighted least-squares ("best") fit to all of the applicable flight data.

Effect of chordwise deformation on propulsive performance of flapping wings in forward flight
Aeronautical Journal, 2020Lack of flexibility limits the performance enhancement of man-made flapping wing Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs). Active chordwise deformation (bending) is introduced into the flapping wing model at low Reynolds number of Re = 200 in the present study.

Influencing Factors on Propulsive Performances of Water Droplets for Laser Propulsion
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2010A transversely excited at atmospheric pressure CO 2 laser operated at 10.6 μm and 5 μs pulse width was employed to ablate atomized water droplets for laser propulsion. The momentum was derived from the force sensor data. Experimental results indicated that coupling coefficient C m , specific impulse I sp , and internal efficiency η were increased ...
