Inbreeding Effects on Propylea quatuordecimpunctata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)
Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1999Up to 5 successive inbred generations were produced, through sibling mating, from 64 parental (P) pairs of Propylea quatuordecimpunctata (L.) collected from 3 locations in the northeastern United States. The percentage of P females ovipositing >5 eggs was 62.5% compared with a mean of 43% for inbred generations F1 to F4.

Abstract Comparative studies showed no measurable differences among three populations of Propylea quatuordecimpunctata L. (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in their developmental and reproductive responses to temperature or photoperiod. Populations of P. quatuordecimpunctata from Canada, France, and Turkey reared on a diet of pea aphids, Acyrthosiphon

Coccinella septempunetata L. larvae reared at 23 ± 2°C (16:8 [L:D]) on pea aphids, Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris), required an average of 13.1 d to complete development, a significantly faster rate of development than observed on corn leaf aphids, Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch) (16 d). Adult C. septempunetata from larvae reared on A.

Coccinella septempunctata and Propylea quatuordecimpunctata in North America have documented invasive capacity. Studies are needed to identify relevant life-history parameters responsible for their successful spatial spread. This study is a detailed analysis of phenotypic variation in reproductive traits of several Nearctic and Palearctic populations ...
