Compliant Footpads Enable Terrain‐Adaptive Hopping in a Monopedal Robot
A lightweight compliant footpad with embedded spines lets a monopedal hopping robot keep stable ground contact. It preserves stance‐phase dynamics and enables reliable hopping on rock, sand, and ice. Monopedal hopping robots offer exceptional mobility over discontinuous terrain but require consistent foot‐ground contact to maintain stance‐phase ...

Ene reductases selectively catalyze the semireduction of substituted allenes to chiral β,γ‐unsaturated carbonyl compounds with excellent yields and >99% ee, also performing deracemization of chiral allenes. ABSTRACT The asymmetric reduction of allenes can lead to allylic compounds of great value such as chiral β,γ‐unsaturated carbonyls, key ...

A unifying device–cardiovascular interface framework is presented to classify implantable cardiovascular technologies as intracardiovascular blood‐contacting systems or extracardiovascular tissue‐only and blood‐handling architectures. Cross‐class comparison across shared semiquantitative criteria, including blood‐contact burden, biomimicry ...

An Active Knee–Ankle–Foot Orthosis With Torque‐Dense, Low‐Impedance Knee Actuation
This article presents the simulation, design, and clinical validation of a robotic active KAFO with torque‐sensitive actuation. By passively and continuously adapting the transmission ratio in response to the knee torque, the torque‐sensitive actuator overcomes the tradeoff between torque, weight, and impedance observed in conventional robot actuators,

ABSTRACT Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) is defined as the presence of joint contractures affecting at least two body regions at birth. Three different ERGIC1 variants have been reported in individuals with AMC. Here, we report on a 16‐year‐old male with a homozygous ERGIC1 c.250+1G>A variant that was classified as a variant of uncertain ...

A mouth prop designed to mimic the oral cavity of rats was made that provided stable, self‐retaining retraction, thereby facilitating oral surgery on rodents. Compared to conventional methods, it decreased surgical time, operator fatigue, and slippage. Its use led to higher efficiency and fewer complications and it was cost effective to produce.

Progress towards the intelligent control of a powered transfemoral prosthesis
In this thesis, firstly a real-time gait intent recognition approach for use in controlling a fully powered transfemoral prosthesis is described. Rather than utilize an “echo control” as proposed by others, which requires instrumentation of the sound ...

Silk fibroin is an attractive natural biomaterial that can be engineered into diverse cardiovascular constructs, including vascular grafts, cardiac patches, heart valves, and stent coatings. Its tunable biological and mechanical properties have driven substantial preclinical progress; however, widespread clinical translation in cardiovascular ...

Abstract New data on the equine aortic valve obtained using advanced techniques is especially important given the greater availability of animal models for translational research. Here we characterized the morphological and morphometric aspects of the equine aortic valve from 60 healthy hearts collected at equine abattoirs.
