A Review on Hybrid Myoelectric Control Systems for Upper Limb Prosthesis

open access: yes, 2015
Prosthesis is a device extension which is used to replace a missing body part. Amputees who lost all or part of the upper limb may use a prosthesis depending on their requirement.

Design and Control of a New Biomimetic Transfemoral Knee Prosthesis Using an Echo-Control Scheme

open access: yes, 2018
Passive knee prostheses require a significant amount of additional metabolic energy to carry out a gait cycle, therefore affecting the natural human walk performance.

Categorization of compensatory motions in transradial myoelectric prosthesis users [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Prosthesis users perform various compensatory motions to accommodate for the loss of the hand and wrist as well as the reduced functionality of a prosthetic hand.

Degradable Magnetic Composites from Recycled NdFeB Magnets for Soft Actuation and Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a degradable soft magnetic composite made from recycled NdFeB particles embedded in a gelatin‐based organogel. The material is processed into magnetic sensors and soft robotic components, which can later be dissolved in a green solvent to recover NdFeB magnetic particles.

Intelligent prosthetic hips and knees: from actuation to perception and control

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
Intelligent prosthetic hips and knees represent a critical advancement in restoring natural gait and mobility for lower-limb amputees, particularly those with high-level amputations such as hip disarticulation.

Muscle Control of an Extra Robotic Digit

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study compares muscle‐ and movement‐based control for operating a supernumerary robotic thumb. While movement control performs better in the proposed tasks, muscle‐based (EMG) control promotes broader motor learning. The results highlight the promise and challenges of using biosignals for human augmentation, offering new insights into intuitive ...

A MINIMAL JERK PROSTHESIS CONTROL SYSTEM

open access: yes, 2005
Efficient prosthesis control is dependant on the user’s ability to control the desired movements of the prosthesis. Observed manifestations of jerk on a complete arm prosthesis can lead to difficulty in performing controlled movements, especially under ...

Is an artificial limb embodied as a hand? Brain decoding in prosthetic limb users.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2020
The potential ability of the human brain to represent an artificial limb as a body part (embodiment) has been inspiring engineers, clinicians, and scientists as a means to optimise human-machine interfaces. Using functional MRI (fMRI), we studied whether

Transforming the Anthropomorphic Passive Free-Flow Foot Prosthesis Into a Powered Foot Prosthesis With Intuitive Control and Sensation (Bionic FFF)

open access: yes
Introduction Approximately 89% of all service members with amputations do not return to duty. Restoring intuitive neural control with somatosensory sensation is a key to improving the safety and efficacy of prosthetic locomotion.
