The design of a reflectionless arterial prosthesis [PDF]

open access: greenJournal of Biological Physics, 2010
We propose a new technique to characterize a reflectionless arterial prosthesis. The corresponding transmission and reflection coefficients are determined from the geometric and the elastic properties of the arterial wall, and the interaction between the latter and the prosthesis are studied accordingly.

Design of an ankle prosthesis for swimming and walking

open access: goldProcedia Engineering, 2011
AbstractThis study presents a particular mechanical device for lower limb amputees, a prosthetic ankle, designed for swimming and partially for walking in two possible configurations. Experimental static tests are carried out for a compliance according to the standard, in the configuration for walking which is considered the most severe in terms of ...

Design of a biomimetic polymer‐composite hip prosthesis

open access: greenJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, 2007
AbstractA new biomimetic composite hip prosthesis (stem) was designed to obtain properties similar to those of the contiguous bone, in particular stiffness, to allow normal loading of the surrounding femoral bone. This normal loading would reduce excessive stress shielding, known to result in bone loss, and micromotions at the bone‐implant interface ...

Mixed reality to design lower limb prosthesis [PDF]

open access: bronzeProceedings of CAD'15, 2016
This paper presents a Mixed Reality environment, named Virtual Orthopedic LABoratory (VOLAB), which permits to emulate an orthopedic lab and design lower limb prosthesis, in particular, the socket component. The proposed solution is based on low cost devices (e.g., Microsoft Kinect) and open source libraries (e.g., OpenCL and VTK).

Prosthesis design of animal models of periprosthetic joint infection following total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
BACKGROUND:The number of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is increasing annually. Animal models have been used to clarify their clinical characteristics and the infection mechanism of pathogenic bacteria, However,

Noninvasive extendable prosthesis: a new design [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2020
The treatment of choice for distal femur malignancies in skeletally immature patients remains controversial. As the mainstream treatment, limb-salvage treatment has been recently investigated, but its application in children remains challenging ...
