Socket modelling assistant for prosthesis design

International Journal of Computer Aided Engineering and Technology, 2013
In this paper, we propose a knowledge-based approach to design lower limb prostheses; in particular, we focus on the 3D modelling of the socket, the most critical component. First, the architecture of a dedicated design framework is described, detailing features of the main design steps.

Design and testing of a flexible hip prosthesis

Clinical Biomechanics, 1994
A prosthesis with flexibility and optimal proximal fit was constructed in titanium alloy. The aim was to create the same elasticity as in the femoral shaft. Distally it was cylindrical with slots in the stem and a spacer made of polymer was placed in the slots.

Design of a Multigrasp Transradial Prosthesis

Journal of Medical Devices, 2011
This paper describes the design and performance of a new prosthetic hand capable of multiple grasp configurations, and capable of fingertip forces and speeds comparable to those used by healthy subjects in typical activities of daily living. The hand incorporates four motor units within the palm, which together drive sixteen joints through tendon ...

Electromechanical Design Handset Prosthesis

2020 Moscow Workshop on Electronic and Networking Technologies (MWENT), 2020
This paper describes the development and testing of an electromechanical hand prosthesis using feedback technology to compensate for lost tactile sensations partially, as well as how the device is controlled by neurointerface. In the course of this work, the following innovations, which distinguish this project from similar products of competitors ...

Design and Characterization of an Open-Source Robotic Leg Prosthesis

International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics, 2018
Challenges associated with current prosthetic technologies limit the quality of life of lower-limb amputees. Passive prostheses lead amputees to walk slower, use more energy, fall more often, and modify their gait patterns to compensate for the ...

Design of a Prototype for Vision Prosthesis

International Journal of Biomedical and Clinical Engineering, 2018
This article describes how the field of vision prostheses is currently being developed around the world to restore useful vision for people suffering from retinal degenerative diseases. The vision prosthesis system (VPS) maps visual images to electrical pulses and stimulates the surviving healthy parts in the retina of the eye, i.e.

Design, development, and testing of a lightweight hybrid robotic knee prosthesis

Int. J. Robotics Res., 2018
We present a lightweight robotic knee prosthesis with a novel hybrid actuation system that enables passive and active operation modes. The proposed hybrid knee uses a spring-damper system in combination with an electric motor and transmission system ...

Design, Development, and Validation of a Lightweight Nonbackdrivable Robotic Ankle Prosthesis

IEEE/ASME transactions on mechatronics, 2019
Robotic ankle prostheses can imitate the biomechanical function of intact legs at the cost of a larger weight and size compared to conventional passive prostheses.

Hip prosthesis: biomechanics and design

2022
Total hip arthroplasty is currently one of the most successful and frequently performed surgical procedures. The hip replacement operation is required if the joint is affected by severe osteoarthritis, which is known to lead to pain and limitations in the joint functions, especially when the patient is not responding to conservative treatments ...
