Risk Factors for Prosthesis Failure in Pulmonary Valve Replacement

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2011
After initial right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction, replacement of the pulmonary valve (PVR) with a bioprosthetic valve may be performed. Bioprosthetic valves fail (PVF) and require repeat replacement. Identification of risk factors for PVF would be useful for clinicians choosing among various options for the initial PVR.We retrospectively ...

Failure of an uncemented thumb carpometacarpal joint ceramic prosthesis

Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume), 2017
Thumb carpometacarpal joint replacement is associated with high rates of loosening and failure. We present our results for an uncemented ceramic–ceramic total joint prosthesis with a reverse ball-and-socket design and bioactive coating. Between 2008 and 2012, 29 prostheses were inserted into 28 patients (mean age 63 years) with advanced osteoarthritis.

Migration and failure of the Mecron screw-in acetabular prosthesis

Journal of Arthroplasty, 1998
Early results with the Mecron prosthesis have been variable. We report our experience with this prosthesis at medium- to long-term follow-up. At 5 to 9 years after surgery, 43 patients (49 implants) were reviewed. Radiographic measurements of superior migration, alteration in the opening angle, and thread engagement were made. The failure rate was very

Multidisciplinary approach for in-deep assessment of joint prosthesis failure

2009 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2009
In spite of advancement in biomaterials and biomechanics, in development of new osteo-integrative materials and coatings, and in macro- micro- component design, a non negligible fraction of the implanted prosthesis fails before the expected lifetime. A prospective observational clinical study has been conducted to define and apply a set of experimental
