Failure prediction of the total hip prosthesis system
Journal of Biomechanics, 1981Abstract The mechanical failure of the prosthesis-cement-femur system is analyzed by using a two-dimensional finite element model. The strain energy density (SED) criterion is applied to locate potential failure sites in the PMMA and prosthesis stem for five different prosthesis positions.

Mechanical Failure of the Repiphysis Expandable Prosthesis
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-American Volume, 2010The current treatment of osteosarcoma includes neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by wide resection of the tumor and postoperative chemotherapy. While amputation of the extremity was once the mainstay of treatment, medical and surgical developments over the last several decades have led to the success of limb-salvage surgery1,2.

Cellular basis for failure of joint prosthesis
Bio-Medical Materials and Engineering, 1996In recent times, loosening of joint prosthesis resulting in failure, is of grave concern to orthopedicians. It is estimated that 50% of total hip replacements become loose after 15 years, and most of them require either revision surgery or resection orthoplasty.

Failure Analysis of Cementless Hip Joint Prosthesis
Advanced Materials Research, 2013In this changing global scenario, modification, transplantation, and replacement can be the eternal solution for most of the problems in the medical field. Hence replacement technique finds a very prominent place in medicine as a remedy having closely tied up with biomechanics.

Vascular Prostheses Performance Assessment of Vascular Prosthesis Failure
Artificial Organs, 1986Abstract: During 30 years of active participation in clinical vascular surgery and the screening and development of vascular prostheses, >450 different fabrications have been evaluated. Vascular prosthesis retrieval and analysis during this period of time have been systematized, and >40 different causes of failure of vascular prostheses have ...

Failure of an uncemented acetabular prosthesis – a case study
Engineering Failure Analysis, 2006Severe wear and aseptic loosening in an uncemented acetabular prosthesis have been observed in a revision surgery carried out at King Edwards VII hospital by L. Taylor and P. Heaton-Adegbile, twelve years following the primary total hip replacement operation. The superior-lateral wall of the polyethylene liner and part of the titanium cup were found to

Symptomatic failure of snap-on bipolar radial head prosthesis
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, 2009As the design of prosthetic radial head components improves, and the understanding of the necessity for early restoration of elbow and forearm stability in complex elbow trauma increases, prosthetic radial head replacement is becoming more common. In fact, open reduction and internal fixation of complex radial head fractures has been shown to have ...

Inflatable penile prosthesis cylinder failure after internal urethrotomy
Urology, 1988Transurethral direct vision internal urethrotomy can be performed safely in the presence of an inflatable penile prosthesis with several caveats. A case of prosthesis cylinder rupture by urethrotome is reviewed.

The inverse prosthesis as a revision prosthesis in failures of shoulder hemiarthroplasty.
La Chirurgia degli organi di movimento, 2005The authors describe their series of seven cases of complications and failures of shoulder hemiarthroplasty that were submitted to revision surgery involving an inverse prosthesis. This prosthesis has for some time now been indicated in elderly patients with arthropathy caused by rupture of the cuff.

Risk Factors for Prosthesis Failure in Pulmonary Valve Replacement
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2011After initial right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction, replacement of the pulmonary valve (PVR) with a bioprosthetic valve may be performed. Bioprosthetic valves fail (PVF) and require repeat replacement. Identification of risk factors for PVF would be useful for clinicians choosing among various options for the initial PVR.We retrospectively ...
