Cervical Disc Prosthesis in Humans

Spine, 2001
Prospective preliminary trial of a cervical disc prosthesis. To study the feasibility, efficacy in maintaining intervertebral mobility, and complications of a low-profile disc prosthesis implanted after single-level cervical discectomy.Since studies reported by Baba et al, there is fear that degeneration of the intervertebral disc levels adjacent to ...

Failure of an uncemented thumb carpometacarpal joint ceramic prosthesis

Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume), 2017
Thumb carpometacarpal joint replacement is associated with high rates of loosening and failure. We present our results for an uncemented ceramic–ceramic total joint prosthesis with a reverse ball-and-socket design and bioactive coating. Between 2008 and 2012, 29 prostheses were inserted into 28 patients (mean age 63 years) with advanced osteoarthritis.

Failures of the RM finger prosthesis joint replacement system

Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume), 2011
In our unit a high failure rate of the RM finger prosthesis joint replacement system was noted, prompting a review of cases. A series of patients underwent implantation under the care of one surgeon and the results were monitored. Twenty-one devices were implanted of which 16 were inserted for rheumatoid disease.

Failure of the Uncoated Titanium ProxiLock Femoral Hip Prosthesis

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2006
New prostheses should be evaluated for stability and clinical performance. In a prospective randomized clinical trial, we implanted 22 titanium (Ti) and 20 hydroxyapatite-coated (HA) ProxiLock femoral hip prostheses during total hip arthroplasty in 42 patients.

Early catastrophic failure of rotating hinge total knee prosthesis

The Journal of Arthroplasty, 2000
The mechanical failure of a prosthesis component is usually observed as a late complication of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). In knees with severe ligament instability and bone deficiency, either a true hinge prosthesis or a rotating hinge implant is commonly used.

Ossiculoplasty failure with ceramic ossicular replacement prosthesis.

ORL; journal for oto-rhino-laryngology and its related specialties, 1987
The stability of ceramic ossicular replacement prosthesis (CORP) in the middle ear was evaluated in 162 ears that had been followed for more than 18 months. The CORP extruded from 8 ears (4.9%) and was dislocated in 6 ears (3.7%). These failures were considered to be due mainly to postoperative tubal dysfunction and disease recurrence.

Disc failure in a Björk-Shiley mitral prosthesis.

The Journal of heart valve disease, 1995
The case of a 50-year-old man is presented who underwent reoperation for a malfunctioning Björk-Shiley spherical valve which had been inserted 14 years previously. The patient made a satisfactory recovery after surgery. Examination of the explanted valve revealed that a segment of the pyrolytic carbon disc was missing.

Failure of knitted dacron as an arterial prosthesis.

Surgery, 1977
The incidence of failure of knitted Dacron arterial prostheses is thought to be significantly greater than that reported in the literature. Five cases of immediate and late defects in grafts of various manufacture are reported and a sixth case is discussed.
