Ossiculoplasty failure with ceramic ossicular replacement prosthesis.

ORL; journal for oto-rhino-laryngology and its related specialties, 1987
The stability of ceramic ossicular replacement prosthesis (CORP) in the middle ear was evaluated in 162 ears that had been followed for more than 18 months. The CORP extruded from 8 ears (4.9%) and was dislocated in 6 ears (3.7%). These failures were considered to be due mainly to postoperative tubal dysfunction and disease recurrence.

Disc failure in a Björk-Shiley mitral prosthesis.

The Journal of heart valve disease, 1995
The case of a 50-year-old man is presented who underwent reoperation for a malfunctioning Björk-Shiley spherical valve which had been inserted 14 years previously. The patient made a satisfactory recovery after surgery. Examination of the explanted valve revealed that a segment of the pyrolytic carbon disc was missing.

Patterns of failure in the original Besser bipolar prosthesis.

South African journal of surgery. Suid-Afrikaanse tydskrif vir chirurgie, 1990
Fourteen original Besser endoprostheses inserted in young patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head were reviewed. Two cups dislocated early and 1 other required replacement due to acetabular degeneration. Component disassembly occurred in 4 hips, which had exhibited persistently vertical cups.
