Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Hafnium Nanostructures Fabricated by Physical Vapor Deposition Through a Colloidal Mask

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We generate hafnium nanostructures by first depositing polystyrene particles of varying diameter followed by physical vapour deposition of hafnium thin films. The resultant structure shows a kill‐on‐contact effect against both Gram‐negative Escherichia coli and Gram‐positive Staphylococcus aureus.

Prosthetic knee joint infection caused by α-hemolytic Streptococcus species: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2023
Background Knee arthroplasty is an orthopedic surgical procedure in which a damaged joint is replaced with an artificial one. It is estimated that 1–2% of knee arthroplasties will encounter infection over their lifetime.

Q fever prosthetic joint infection [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2017
Coxiella burnetiiis the causative pathogen of the zoonotic infection Q fever. Most patients with Q fever experience a non-specific febrile illness, hepatitis or pneumonia. Q fever has recently been described as a cause of prosthetic joint septic arthritis, but remains very uncommonly reported.

Can medio-lateral baseplate position and load sharing induce asymptomatic local bone resorption of the proximal tibia? : a finite element study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background Asymptomatic local bone resorption of the tibia under the baseplate can occasionally be observed after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Its occurrence is not well documented, and so far no explanation is available.
