Prosthetic joint infection (PJI), a complication of joint replacement surgery, presents with fever, joint pain, erythema, effusion, and joint loosening. Many advances have decreased the risk of infection, such as the use of perioperative antimicrobial prophylaxis and intraoperative laminar airflow.
