Development and Internal Evaluation of a Biomarker‐Based Model for Preoperative Diagnosis of Infectious Nonunion

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a biomarker‐based model (PCT, IL‐6, CRP, ESR) that accurately distinguishes infectious from aseptic nonunion in long bone fractures, enabling superior preoperative diagnosis and informed surgical decision‐making. ABSTRACT Objective Preoperative identification of infectious nonunion remains challenging, particularly in ...

Clinical Outcomes of Bone‐Anchored Versus Socket‐Suspended Prostheses in Individuals With Transfemoral Amputation: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Two‐Arm Comparative Studies

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This systematic review and meta‐analysis compared bone‐anchored prostheses (BAP) and socket‐suspended prostheses (SSP) in individuals with transfemoral amputation (TFA) using only two‐arm comparative studies. Across 12 studies (BAP n = 200; SSP n = 244), no significant differences were found in mobility, quality of life, or gait.

Evaluating the Impact of Patellar Resurfacing in Medial Stabilized Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
In medial‐stabilized total knee arthroplasty with a single implant design, patellar resurfacing did not improve pain or patient‐reported outcomes and slightly increased operative time, while non‐resurfaced knees showed marginally better range of motion and function, supporting an individualized, non‐inferior approach to patellar management.

The role of antibiotics in preventing surgical complications in periodontology and implant dentistry

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Antibiotics are commonly prescribed in periodontal and implant surgeries, either before, during or after surgery, to prevent postoperative infection and reduce early implant failure. However, the potential benefits may be undermined by the risks of resistance and sensitization, thus requiring a strict indication for prescription.
