Pathogenesis of Prosthetic Joint Infections
Every wound is contaminated, but not all wounds end with a prosthetic joint infection (PJI). The pathogenic process involves bacterial adhesion steps that are fundamental in the early stage of PJI development and the consecutive biofilm formation. Biofilm development is an essential step in establishment of a chronic PJI.

Abstract Purpose Previous knee surgery is discussed as a risk factor for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), yet most reports do not distinguish between osteotomy and osteosynthesis. The German Operationen‐ und Prozedurenschlüssel (OPS)‐based classification was used to compare the impact of these procedures on implant survival, mortality and complications ...

Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates from nares and prosthetic joint infections are mupirocin susceptible. [PDF]
The objective of the present study was to investigate the antibiotic susceptibility including mupirocin among Staphylococcus. epidermidis isolated from prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) (n=183) and nasal isolates (n=75) from patients intended to undergo

Abstract Purpose Data on the reliability of point‐of‐care (POC) tests for the rapid diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) using synovial fluid (SF) D‐dimer (DD), interleukin 6 (IL‐6) and procalcitonin (PCT) are limited. This study aimed to address this issue by evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of POC tests for SF DD, IL‐6 and PCT in ...
