Technology of Prosthetic Material

Surgical Innovation, 1994
Prosthetic material to repair a hernia is indicated for large defects, attenuated muscle, or tension avoidance on a repair. Biological, absorbable, and permanent material can be used to repair a hernia. Absorbable substances such as Dexon (Davis & Geck, Wayne, NJ) and Vicryl (Ethicon, Inc, Somerville, NJ) are useful in infected areas but have a high ...

Chest Wall Reconstruction Without Prosthetic Material

Thoracic Surgery Clinics, 2017
The surgical resection of primary and secondary tumors involving the chest wall often requires reconstruction with prosthetic and soft tissues, such as muscle flaps. There are situations when a soft tissue reconstruction of the chest wall is preferable. Prosthetic material can become infected and require reoperation for removal of the infected material.

Intracardiac prosthetic materials

Journal of Surgical Research, 1965
Summary o 1. The fate of 161 plastic prostheses of various fabrications of Ivalon (polyvinylchloride), Teflon (tetrafluroethylene), Dacron (polyesters), Nylon, polyurethane and terpolymer placed within atrial septal defects of dogs is reported. 2. All materials were “clinically” satisfactory. 3.

Materials in maxillofacial prosthetics

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1974
AbstractMaxillofacial prosthetic materials are classified in two main groups: extraoral and intraoral prosthetic materials.Among extraoral prosthetic materials vinyl chloride polymers, poly (methyl methacrylate), silicone, and polyurethane are discussed for use in facial prosthetics.

New organosilicon maxillofacial prosthetic materials

Dental Materials, 2002
The silicone elastomer A-2186 is a widely used maxillofacial prosthetic material. It is a pourable two-component silicone rubber cured by a platinum catalyst. Used as a prosthetic material, A-2186 has short working time and because of its hydrophobic nature, poor adhesion to non-silicone based adhesives.

Materials for dental prosthetics

Glass and Ceramics, 2012
The characteristics of dental materials of diverse nature are briefly described and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed. A promising direction in dental materials science is development of silicate materials, which have gained increasingly wider popularity and recognition in the last few years.

Prosthetic Implant Materials

Annual Review of Materials Science, 1975
The purpose of a prosthetic implant material is to replace a part or a function of the body in a manner that will be safe, reliable, economical, and physiologically acceptable. Many of thc conccpts and typcs of materials involved in implantation were recently reviewed in Volume 4 of this series by Lyman & Seare (1).
