Immunoglobulin E‐specific allergens against leaf in serum of dogs with clinical features of grass leaf allergy

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 34, Issue 5, Page 393-403, October 2023., 2023
Background – Grass leaf has been suspected to cause immunoglobulin (Ig)E‐mediated immediate hypersensitivity reactions both in humans and in dogs. However, most studies in this area are case control studies without in vitro data showing the involvement of IgE in the reaction.

C‐reactive protein : albumin ratio in patients with resectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 6, Page 1146-1152, December 2020., 2020
This study showed that a high C‐reactive protein : albumin ratio (CAR) is an independent predictor of poor recurrence‐free survival in patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). The results also suggest that patients with ICC with a high CAR had a more aggressive tumour behaviour, including a larger tumour size, higher frequency of ...

Role of circulating fibrocytes in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 6, Page 1256-1265, December 2020., 2020
The circulating fibrocyte percentage is increased in patients with acute appendicitis. This may improve diagnostics, and reduce unnecessary radiation exposure and surgical operations. Circulating fibrocyte percentage may help in diagnosis of acute appendicitis. Background Improved diagnostic biomarkers are required for acute appendicitis.

Physiological performance and inflammatory markers as indicators of complications after oesophageal cancer surgery

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 5, Page 840-846, October 2020., 2020
C‐reactive protein concentration and peak oxygen uptake are collective independent risk factors that can account for over half of major morbidity following oesophagectomy for oesophageal cancer. A composite risk score, the Combined Inflammatory and Physiology Score (CIPS) (range 0–2), predicted major morbidity (17·9 per cent in patients with a CIPS of ...

Anastomotic leakage after elective colorectal surgery: a prospective multicentre observational study on use of the Dutch leakage score, serum procalcitonin and serum C‐reactive protein for diagnosis

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 499-507, June 2020., 2020
Early diagnosis and treatment of anastomotic leakage (AL) is crucial to limit related mortality. In this prospective 1‐year multicentre study of 1546 patients who had an elective colorectal resection with anastomosis, the AL rate was 4·9 per cent. The Dutch leakage score was the best predictor of AL on days 2 and 3 after surgery. Colorectal surgery and

C‐reactive protein (CRP) in high altitude Bolivian peri‐urban adolescents varies by adiposity, current illness, height, socioeconomic status, sex, and menarcheal status: The potential benefits and costs of adipose reserves in arduous environments

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Human Biology, Volume 36, Issue 9, September 2024.
Abstract Objectives In non‐industrialized and low‐income populations, adipose stores can serve as a valuable buffer against harsh conditions such as seasonal food scarcity. However, these reserves may incur costs due to adipocytes' production of pro‐inflammatory cytokines; inflammation is associated with increased risk for cardiometabolic diseases ...
