Interlocking Rights, Layered Protections
2022Abstract This chapter explores some aspects of Kimberley Brownlee’s arguments for a right against social deprivation, the author Henry Shue’s own arguments for subsistence rights and other basic rights, Elizabeth Ashford’s development and refinement of one of Shue’s arguments, and David Luban’s analysis of the concept of a right.

Protective layered electrodeposits
Electrochimica Acta, 1994Abstract The development of multilayered coatings as a means of enhancing performance, especially corrosion service life, has its origins in hot dipped diffusional coating process. Such coatings develop two or three layers having thicknesses of 1–20 μm (“macro” layered coatings), or thickness of 10–1000 nm (“micro” layered coatings).

AbstractOffers the first comprehensive history of international efforts to protect the ozone layer by abandoning the use of chlorofluorohydrocarbons (CFCs), and underlines that this is the greatest success yet achieved in managing human impacts on the global environment.

Layer by layer nanoarchitectures for the surface protection of polycarbonate
European Polymer Journal, 2013Abstract The layer by layer (LbL) technique has been exploited for depositing a completely inorganic silica coating on 0.2 and 1 mm thick polycarbonate (PC) films. The modification of the surface of the polymer substrate has been assessed by contact angle measurements, SEM and FT-IR analyses.

In 1973, Horton et al. estimated the incidence of fistula following hypospadias surgery to range between 15% and 45%. In 1996, Duckett and Baskin estimated the incidence to be between 10% and 15%. In the new millennium, the accepted rate of fistula in distal hypospadias is less than 5%.

Layer-by-Layer Polyelectrolyte/Inhibitor Nanostructures for Metal Corrosion Protection
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2010Multicomponent coating formed by polyelectrolyte multilayers opens new opportunities for anticorrosion protection. Here we demonstrate a novel method of corrosion protection based on formation and deposition of polyelectrolyte multilayers on aluminum and steel alloys, analysis of different polyelectrolyte compositions (strong−strong, strong−weak, weak ...

Polypyrrole layers for steel protection
Applied Surface Science, 2001Abstract This report describes the behaviour of polypyrrole and polypyrrole/carboximethylcellulose (Ppy/CMC) prepared by different methods in order to prevent the corrosion of steel. Potentiodynamic polarization curves and open circuit potential were used to evaluate the capacity of these materials to protect the surface. The results obtained allowed

Protectiveness of Corrosion Layers
1994This paper summarizes the experimental and theoretical evidence showing that, in permanent immersion, the protectiveness of corrosion layers can only be due to diffusional transport phenomena in the liquid phase. This gives rise to the new concept of a “liquid surface state”.

Introduction to layers of protection analysis
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2003Layers of protection analysis (LOPA) is a powerful analytical tool for assessing the adequacy of protection layers used to mitigate process risk. LOPA builds upon well-known process hazards analysis techniques, applying semi-quantitative measures to the evaluation of the frequency of potential incidents and the probability of failure of the protection ...
