2004Rainfall is a very important trigger mechanism for landslides in tropical regions. As water infiltrates, soil suction reduces and pore pressures build up. Therefore, a drainage system has a very important role in infiltration. Another benefit of drainage is avoiding erosion, which causes scour that may develop into a landslide at a later stage.
