Culture Methods for Proteus mirabilis

2019
Proteus mirabilis is generally easy to culture, but its tendency to swarm on a wide variety of media can interfere with isolation of single colonies or identification of other species in a sample. Therefore, specialized media may be needed to control swarming or to study the bacteria under chemically defined conditions.

Adherence of Proteus mirabilis to Uroepithelial Cells

2019
Bacterial adherence to eukaryotic cells is mediated by different adhesins that can act at different stages in bacteria-host interaction. Abundant evidence has suggested that adherence is critical for infection by bacterial pathogens. Proteus mirabilis is an opportunistic pathogen which frequently infects the human urinary tract, particularly in ...

[Deoxyribonuclease of Proteus mirabilis].

Voprosy meditsinskoi khimii, 1983
DNAase was isolated and purified from cell-free extracts of Proteus mirabilis by means of fractionation with ammonium sulfate and CM cellulose chromatography. The enzyme exhibited the endonuclease specificity with DNA as a substrate, split off the native DNA by the "single-strike" mechanism, had a pH optimum in alkaline zone, required Me2+ and was ...

Proteus mirabilis Overview

2019
Proteus mirabilis, a Gram-negative bacterium, commonly causes catheter-associated urinary tract infections, wound infections, gastroenteritis and, in some cases, bacteremia. The phenotypic hallmarks of this bacterium include swarming motility, urease and hemolysin production, and synthesis of numerous adherence fimbriae.

Considerations for Modeling Proteus mirabilis Swarming

2019
In this chapter we provide some initial guidance to experimentalists on how they might go about creating mathematical representations of their systems under study. Because the interests and goals of different researchers can differ, we try to provide broad instruction on the creation and use of mathematical models.

Phosphatase of Proteus mirabilis

2001
Cell-free preparations of Proteus mirabilis contained a phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.1), whose activity surpassed that of alkaline phosphatase from Escherichia coli. Phosphatase was also found in the culture liquid of P. mirabilis. The composition of proteins displaying enzyme activity was assayed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

6 Serology of Proteus mirabilis and Proteus vulgaris

1984
Publisher Summary This chapter describes the serology of Proteus mirabilis ( P . mirabilis ) and Proteus vulgaris ( P . vulgaris ). Proteus is a Gram-negative rod belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae. Proteae are present in the normal faecal flora of man. The Proteus group of bacteria also frequently gives rise to bacteraemia.
