Deuteration of Six‐Membered N‐Heteroarenes: Chemistry and Applications

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 67, December 1, 2025.
Deuterated six‐membered N‐Heteroarenes (6NHetAr) are finding utility in an increasing repertoire of applications. Our paper comprehensively reviews synthetic approaches that have been reported for the deuteration of 6NHetAr and their fused counterparts while providing an overview of established and emerging applications for these materials.

Trait coordination reveals the fast–slow plant economics spectrum along the vertical canopy profile in central Amazonian forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 12, Page 3596-3610, December 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Understanding how environmental drivers affect tree functioning is essential to improve predictions of tropical forests' response to climate change. While functional traits directly influence tree performance, our understanding of how canopy environments shape their ...

Dependence of Biocatalysis on D/H Ratio: Possible Fundamental Differences for High-Level Biological Taxons

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The kinetics of biological reactions depends on the deuterium/protium (D/H) ratio in water. In this work, we describe the kinetic model of biocatalytic reactions in living organisms depending on the D/H ratio.

Precision muon lifetime and capture experiments at PSI

open access: yes, 2004
The muLan experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institute will measure the lifetime of the positive muon with a precision of 1 ppm, giving a value for the Fermi coupling constant G_F at the level of 0.5 ppm. Meanwhile, by measuring the observed lifetime of the

Influence of tree height and age on leaf drip‐tip morphology in lowland tropical rainforest trees

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 12, Page 3766-3777, December 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Across biomes, plant form and function are driven largely by variation in climate, particularly the availability of light and water. Strong gradients of these resources also exist within plant communities.

Volatile‐Mediated Plant Defense Networks: Field Evidence for Isoprene as a Short‐Distance Immune Signal

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 12, Page 8616-8629, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Isoprene, the most abundant biogenic hydrocarbon in the atmosphere, is known to protect photosynthesis from abiotic stress and significantly impact atmospheric chemistry. While laboratory studies show that isoprene can enhance plant immunity, its role in plant‐plant communication under natural field conditions remains unclear.
