pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

One-particle spectral densities and phase diagrams of one-dimensional proton conductors
The equilibrium states of one-dimensional proton conductors in the systems with hydrogen bonds are investigated. Our extended hard-core boson lattice model includes short-range interactions between hydrogen ions, their transfer along the hydrogen bonds ...

Proton Dynamics and Structural Modifications in the Protonic Conductor Perovskites [PDF]
Quasi-elastic neutron scattering, neutron diffraction as well as in situ and ex situ Raman studies were performed on the proton conducting (Ba/Sr)Zr 1- x Ln x O 3-δ dense ceramics. The results confirm the homogeneous distribution of the bulk protonic species, their variable content as a function of Ln content and sample processing as well as successive

Chitosan-based biopolysaccharide proton conductors for synaptic transistors on paper substrates [PDF]
Chitosan is a natural biopolymer and has been widely used for bio- and medical-materials. In this letter, with protonic acid doping, chitosan-based biopolysaccharide proton conductors were prepared with a high proton conductivity of 6 x 10(-3) S cm(-1 ...

H/D isotope effects in high temperature proton conductors [PDF]
The atomic mass ratio of ca. 2 between deuterium and hydrogen is the highest for any pair of stable isotopes and results in significant and measurable H/D isotope effects in high temperature proton conductors containing these species.

BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Tuning anhydrous proton conduction in single-ion polymers by crystalline ion channels
High-conductivity solid-state electrolyte materials with minimal polarization loss are difficult to synthesize. Here the authors show single-ion block copolymers with crystalline protogenic channels having a promising potential to be used as efficient ...
