Possible evidence of extended objects inside the proton

open access: yes, 2003
Recent experimental determinations of the Nachtmann moments of the inelastic structure function of the proton F2p(x, Q**2), obtained at Jefferson Lab, are analyzed for values of the squared four-momentum transfer Q**2 ranging from ~ 0.1 to ~ 2 (GeV/c)**2.

Non-Perturbative Scales in Soft Hadronic Collisions at High Energies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We investigate the role of nonperturbative quark-gluon dynamics in soft high energy processes. In order to reproduce differential and total cross sections for elastic proton-proton and proton-antiproton-scattering at high energy and small momentum ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Lower bound on the proton charge radius from electron scattering data

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2019
The proton charge-radius determinations from the electromagnetic form-factor measurements in electron-proton (ep) scattering require an extrapolation to zero momentum transfer (Q2=0) which is prone to model-dependent assumptions. We show that the data at

Free radical scavenging mechanism of 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives: thermodynamics of O–H and N–H bond cleavage

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
The thermodynamics of free radical scavenge of 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives towards oxygen-centred free radicals were investigated by the density functional theory (DFT) method in the gas phase and aqueous solution.

Astrophysical S factor for the radiative capture 12N(p,gamma)13O determined from the 14N(12N,13O)13C proton transfer reaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The cross section of the radiative proton capture reaction on the drip line nucleus 12N was investigated using the Asymptotic Normalization Coefficient (ANC) method.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Aqueous Solution Chemistry of Ammonium Cation in the Auger Time Window

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
We report on chemical reactions triggered by core-level ionization of ammonium ( $${{\rm{NH}}}_{4}^{+}$$ NH 4 + ) cation in aqueous solution. Based on a combination of photoemission experiments from a liquid microjet and high-level ab initio simulations,

Density Functional Theory Applied to Excited State Intramolecular Proton Transfer in Imidazole-, Oxazole-, and Thiazole-Based Systems

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) is a photoinduced process strongly associated to hydrogen bonding within a molecular framework. In this manuscript, we computed potential energy data using Time Dependent Density Functional Theory ...

Partonic calculation of the two-photon exchange contribution to elastic electron-proton scattering at large momentum transfer

open access: yes, 2004
We estimate the two-photon exchange contribution to elastic electron-proton scattering at large momentum transfer through the scattering off a parton in the proton.
