Coproporphyrin-III from protoporphyrin-IX
Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1972Manipulation of the vinyl side-chains of the readily available protoporphyrin-IX dimethyl ester (2) allows the synthesis of coproporphyrin-III tetramethyl ester (1) in an overall yield of 37%.

Triplet state of protoporphyrin IX
Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1978Flash photolysis of aqueous solutions of protoporphyrin IX at pH values below 2 results in strong triplet state absorptions while at any higher pH, including physiologically relevant values, no triplet state formation can be detected.

An endogenous, biological chelating substance--protoporphyrin--has been studied in vitro and in vivo for potential usefulness as an MRI contrast agent. In vitro data show that manganese protoporphyrin IX (Mn PP) maintains strong paramagnetic properties.

AbstractQuantification of erythrocyte zinc protoporphyrin IX (ZnPP) and protoporphyrin IX (PPIX), individually or jointly, is useful for the diagnostic evaluation of iron deficiency, iron‐restricted erythropoiesis, lead exposure, and porphyrias. A method for simultaneous quantification of ZnPP and PPIX in unwashed blood samples is described, using dual‐

Abstract— Photodynamic efficiency of protoporphyrin IX (PP) accumulated in HeLa cells by the incubation of PP with HeLa cells was compared with that of accumulated PP formed from 5‐aminolevulinic acid (ALA) as a precursor. The ALA‐induced PP was photodynamically more efficient than exogenous PP.

A highly sensitive spectrofluorometric method for quantitative estimation of certain precursors of chlorophyll biosynthesis from the mixtures of plant tetrapyrroles having overlapping fluorescence emission spectra is developed. At room temperature (293 degrees K) protoporphyrin IX is monitored from its emission maximum, 633 nm, when excited at 400 nm ...

Protoporphyrin IX: An Endogenous Theranostic Compound
2021 SBFoton International Optics and Photonics Conference (SBFoton IOPC), 2021Porphyria, cancer, and atherosclerosis patients manifest increased concentration of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) in tissues and blood, and PpIX fluorescence can be used to diagnose these diseases. This review will describe the role of PpIX inside the cells and organisms. Diagnosis and therapy approach using PpIX will be described.
