Nature, 1952ON the basis of studies of Chlorella mutants a biosynthetic chain has been formulated leading from protoporphyrin through Mg protoporphyrin, Mg vinyl pheoporphyrin and protochlorophyll finally to chlorophyll1. We have recently isolated a Chlorella mutant which promises to reveal some of the precursor porphyrins leading up to protoporphyrin.

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 1990Studies with protoporphyrin (PP) and tin protoporphyrin (SnPP) were carried out to assess the effects of tin insertion on the sites of dye localization. Fluorescence emission spectra and studies on the sites of photodamage were consistent with a concentration of PP at membrane loci. In contrast, SnPP photodamage involved an intracellular site.
