In 2016, more than 25% of the asylum seekers in the European Union were of Syrian origin. Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is the most common imported infectious skin disease in refugees from Syria. CL usually presents as an ulcerating papule, nodule, or plaque which heals leaving an atrophic scar.
