Immunocytochemical and ultrastructural characterization of endocrine cells in chicken proventriculus

Cell and Tissue Research, 1991
The endocrine cells of the chicken proventriculus were investigated immunocytochemically, using the peroxidase-antiperoxidase technique on paraffin and semithin sections for light microscopy, and immunogold staining in osmium-fixed material for electron microscopy. The fixation procedure also allowed a detailed ultrastructural investigation.

Histochemical patterns in the proventriculus of the developing chick

Journal of Morphology, 1967
AbstractThe proventriculus of White Leghorn chick embryos (stages 29–45) newly‐hatched chicks, and adult chickens were frozen, sectioned in a cryostat and treated histochemically to identify localizations of alkaline and acid phosphatase, adenosine triphosphatase, 5‐nucleotidase, nucleotide‐diphosphatase, non‐specific glycerophosphatase, glucose‐6 ...

Oxidative enzyme histochemistry of the chick esophagus and proventriculus

Journal of Morphology, 1968
AbstractSuccinic dehydrogenase, NAD and NADP diaphorases, choline oxidase, d‐amino acid oxidase, α‐glycerophosphate dehydrogenase, glutamic dehydrogenase, lactic dehydrogenase and aldolase were identified histochemically in the esophagus and proventriculus of the developing chick embryo.

The endocrine cells of the chicken proventriculus.

Basic and applied histochemistry, 1983
The endocrine cells of the chicken proventriculus were investigated by selective staining techniques, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. The following endocrine cell types were identified: 1) Argyrophilic ECL-cells, of unknown function, were very numerous in the 21-day-old chick, but less numerous in the newborn chick; 2) somatostatin ...

Postosmication of submucosal gland cells in the fowl proventriculus

Zeitschrift fr Zellforschung und Mikroskopische Anatomie, 1963
The technique of postosmication has been applied to resting and histamine-stimulated cells in the submucosal glands of the fowl proventriculus. In resting cells, the smooth endoplasmic reticulum, the mitochondria, and occasional vacuole-containing bodies become impregnated, but the Golgi apparatus, or ‘Dalton complex’ remains unaffected.

Development of the diffuse endocrine system in the chicken proventriculus

Cell & Tissue Research, 1993
The development of endocrine cells in the chicken proventriculus has been investigated using light- and electron-microscopy in conjunction with silver and immunocytochemical techniques. The first morphologically detectable endocrine cells were found in 5-day-old embryos by electron microscopy.

Fluorescence analysis of chick proventriculus cells during intestinal diseases

Russian Agricultural Sciences, 2014
The luminescence spectral analysis method is used to study the characteristics of the functional status of mucosal surface epithelial cells of the proventriculus of chicks infected with colibacteriosis, salmonellosis, and klebsiellosis. Differential diagnostic criteria for identifying the indicated intestinal diseases at early stages are developed on ...

The proventriculus of the worker honeybee and its differentiation

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1990
The proventriculus (pv) of the honeybee regulates the flow of food from the crop into the midgut. It is a formation of the foregut intervening between the crop and the midgut and consists of four bulging pv folds forming a x-shaped lumen. At their ends (=lips) the folds bear filiform hairs forming a comb at their inner margins.

Lectin histochemical study of glycoconjugates in the chick embryo proventriculus.

European journal of morphology, 1995
A lectin histochemical study was performed to investigate the glycoconjugate saccharidic moieties of the lining and glandular epithelium of the chick embryo proventriculus from day 7 to hatching. The sugar residues D-galactose-(beta 1-->3)-N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, alpha/beta-N-acetyl-D-galactosamine and alpha-D-mannose were ...
