O-serotyping Providencia alcalifaciens

Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1979
The O-serotyping scheme for Providencia was tested on Providencia alcalifaciens isolates collected mostly from two hospitals. The specificites of the somatic (O) antigens of P. alcalifaciens were found to be different from those of Providencia stuartii, and separation of the Providencia typing scheme to allow separate typing of each species led to more

Emergence of Resistance of Providencia stuartii to Multiple Antibiotics: Speciation and Biochemical Characterization of Providencia

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1974
From October 1972 through April 1973 isolates of Providencia with multiple resistance to antibiotics were obtained from patients in the Burn Unit of Los Angeles County/ University of Southern California Medical Center. A comparison of the in vitro susceptibilities against nine antibiotics was made of the Burn Unit strains with 20 strains isolated from ...

Transferable urease activity in Providencia stuartii

Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1981
Six urea-positive Providencia stuartii strains were tested for transmissible urease determinants. Two strains, when implanted with "helper" conjugative plasmids, were found to be capable of transferring urease genes to Escherichia coli or urea-negative P. stuartii. Recombination of the urease genes with the helper plasmid in P.

Lipopolysaccharide of Providencia rettgeri

Archives of Microbiology, 1986
The chemical constitutional analysis of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) isolated from Providencia rettgeri was carried out. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis using sodium dodecylsulfate or sodium deoxycholate showed that the lipopolysaccharide mostly consisted of short sugar chains. The lipid A was precipitated out after mild acid hydrolysis of LPS. From
