Opening the black box: in situ imaging of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal structures in soil using synchrotron‐based micro‐CT

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) contribute to plant nutrient and water uptake via their extraradical hyphal networks. However, in situ methodologies to quantify architectural and morphological traits of these networks in soil are largely lacking, limiting our understanding of AMF‐mediated resource transport.

Of mice and men—The emerging oral–gut–brain axis of health and disease

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Oral health's inextricable links to systemic health are highlighted by the emerging oral–gut–brain axis and other well‐known axes. There is growing evidence of a complex oral–gut–brain axis linking mouth and gut microbiomes with the central nervous system.

Providencia rustigianii: a new species in the family Enterobacteriaceae formerly known as Providencia alcalifaciens biogroup 3 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1983
The name Providencia rustigianii sp. nov. is proposed for a group of organisms previously known as Providencia alcalifaciens biogroup 3. By DNA hybridization, strains of P. rustigianii were 81 to 99% related to each other at 60 degrees C, but only 44 to 49% related to P. alcalifaciens biogroups 1 and 2 and 26 to 33% related to Providencia stuartii.
