Contracting Proximal Methods for Smooth Convex Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Optimization, 2020
In this paper, we propose new accelerated methods for smooth convex optimization, called contracting proximal methods. At every step of these methods, we need to minimize a contracted version of the objective function augmented by a regularization term in the form of Bregman divergence.

A Parametric Multi-Convex Splitting Technique with Application to Real-Time NMPC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A novel splitting scheme to solve parametric multiconvex programs is presented. It consists of a fixed number of proximal alternating minimisations and a dual update per time step, which makes it attractive in a real-time Nonlinear Model Predictive ...

A review of recent perspectives on biomechanical risk factors associated with anterior cruciate ligament injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
There is considerable evidence to support a number of biomechanical risk factors associated with non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. This paper aimed to review these biomechanical risk factors and highlight future directions relating to ...

Best proximity point theorems for rational proximal contractions [PDF]

open access: yesFixed Point Theory and Applications, 2013
Abstract We provide sufficient conditions which warrant the existence and uniqueness of the best proximity point for two new types of contractions in the setting of metric spaces. The presented results extend, generalize and improve some known results from best proximity point theory and fixed-point theory.

Best proximity point for q-ordered proximal contraction in noncommutative Banach spaces

open access: yesApplied General Topology, 2023
We introduce the concept of q-ordered proximal nonunique contraction for the non self mappings and then obtain some proximity point results for these mappings. We also furnish examples to support our claims.

Change in muscle thickness under contracting conditions following return to sports after a hamstring muscle strain injury—A pilot study

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Rehabilitation and Technology, 2015
The purpose of this study was to measure the change in hamstring muscle thickness between contracting and relaxing conditions following a return to sports after a hamstring muscle strain and thereby evaluate muscle function.

Downregulation of ICCs and PDGFRα+ cells on colonic dysmotility in hirschsprung disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2023
BackgroundTo investigate the effect of the distribution and expression of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) and platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α positive (PDGFRα+) cells in different colon segments on colonic motility in children with ...

A proximal approach to the inversion of ill-conditioned matrices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We propose a general proximal algorithm for the inversion of ill-conditioned matrices. This algorithm is based on a variational characterization of pseudo-inverses. We show that a particular instance of it (with constant regularization parameter) belongs

Best Proximity Point Theorems for Single and Multivalued Mappings in Fuzzy Multiplicative Metric Space

open access: yesJournal of Function Spaces, 2021
In this paper, we introduce fuzzy multiplicative metric space and prove some best proximity point theorems for single-valued and multivalued proximal contractions on the newly introduced space.

Proper affine actions on semisimple Lie algebras [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
For any noncompact semisimple real Lie group $G$, we construct a group of affine transformations of its Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ whose linear part is Zariski-dense in $\operatorname{Ad} G$ and which is free, nonabelian and acts properly discontinuously
