The learning curve of proximal femoral nailing

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Turcica, 2020
Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate operation time and surgical complication rate of proximal femoral nailing during resident training. Methods: This retrospective evaluation included 659 patients (508 females, 151 males; mean age: 80.7 years), operated by 63 supervised residents between 1998 and 2010.

Management And Outcome Of Unstable Intertrochanteric Fracture By Proximal Femoral Nail Versus Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation In Elderly Patients: A Prospective Comparative Study

open access: yesJournal of Bone and Joint Diseases, 2020
Background: Various treatment modalities for unstable intertrochanteric fractures include osteosynthesis with dynamic hip screws or cephalomedullary nail and arthoplasty in selected cases.

Proximal Femoral Nail for Treatment of Trochanteric Femoral Fractures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery, 2007
Purpose. To report outcomes of 87 consecutive patients treated with a proximal femoral nail (PFN) for trochanteric femoral fractures. Methods. 17 men and 70 women aged 58 to 95 (mean, 85) years with trochanteric femoral fractures ...

Finite‐Element Analysis of a Novel Cephalomedullary Nail for Restricted Sliding to Reduce Risk of Implant Failure in Unstable Intertrochanteric Fractures

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, 2022
Objective How to restrict sliding of cephalomedullary nail and rigid reconstruct medial support for unstable intertrochanteric fractures remains a challenge.

Proximal Femoral Nail versus Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation 2 in the Fixation of Intertrochanteric Fractures

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Association of South Indian States, 2022
Intertrochanteric fractures of the femur is one of the most common fractures encountered by an orthopedician during his practice. Hence, it is considered highly relevant to compare the clinico-radiological outcome of intertrochanteric fractures treated with the two different intramedullary implants – proximal femoral nail (PFN)

A comparative biomechanical study of proximal femoral nail (InterTAN) and proximal femoral nail antirotation for intertrochanteric fractures [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Orthopaedics, 2013
The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical strength of the cephalomedullary nail InterTAN in cases of intertrochanteric fractures with the commonly used PFNA.Sixteen fresh specimens of the proximal femur were used as intertrochanteric fracture models and were fixed using two fixation devices: the new proximal femoral nail (InterTAN) and

Correlation between lag screw route and the ideal insertion point of the intramedullary nail

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Understanding the morphology of the superior aspect of the proximal femur is critical for treating femoral fracture. We assessed the correlation among the ideal insertion point of the femoral nail, femur head-neck axis, and native anteversion.

The Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA) in the Treatment of Proximal Femoral Fractures

open access: yesCollegium antropologicum, 2010
Proximal femoral fractures, especially in elderly persons with osteoporosis, present a challenge for the traumatologist. While the dynamic hip screw (DHS) became the implant of choice for the treatment of stable fractures, the ideal implant for the treatment of unstable fractures remains an issue.

Trochanteric fractures treated with a proximal femoral nail [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Orthopaedics, 2001
We followed prospectively 295 patients with trochanteric fractures treated with the proximal femoral nail. The average age of the patients was 80 years and three out of four were female. The most frequent fracture type was A2 (59%). Clinical and radiographic controls were performed at 1, 3 and 6 months.
