Primary hemiarthroplasty for treatment of proximal humeral fractures

open access: yes, 2003
Background: Primary hemiarthroplasty of the shoulder is used to treat complex proximal humeral fractures, although the reported functional results following this method of treatment have varied widely.

Comparative histological analysis of vertebrates reveals Triassic climate variability across southern Pangea

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Bone tissues of Triassic taxa reveal life history signals consistent with climatic variation across southern Pangea, spanning present‐day Brazil, Argentina, Zimbabwe, and India. Slower growth patterns within the Zimbabwean assemblage suggest a comparatively more arid intracontinental environment than those closer to the coast. Artwork by Andrey Atuchin.

Epidemiology of proximal humerus fractures

open access: yesArchives of Osteoporosis, 2015
There are only a few previous population-based studies that include both inpatient and outpatient treatment data. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiology of proximal humerus fractures. The incidence of proximal humerus fractures increases with age, and we observe a seasonal variation strongly favoring winter months.Proximal humerus ...

Arthroscopic Upper Third Subscapularis Tendon Repair Using H‐Loop Technique: A Case Series

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1525-1535, May 2025.
The images show the surgical technique. (a) Partial subscapularis tendon tear; (b) A PDS suture is passed through the medial and distal edges of the tear and tied at the end to bring in a #2 Fiber Wire suture; (c) Another PDS suture is passed through the tear and inside the loop; (d) The end of the PDS suture is tied, securing both tails of the #2 ...

Ultra Short Osteotomy With Mortise‐Tenon Diaphyseal Prosthesis Reconstruction for Forearm Metastases: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
A novel mortise‐tenon diaphyseal prosthesis enables ultra‐short osteotomy for forearm bone metastases, providing stable fixation with significant pain relief and functional recovery. This approach preserves bone stock and demonstrates excellent safety, with no implant failure, local recurrence, or major complications during mid‐ to long‐term follow‐up.

Trends in incidence of proximal humerus fractures, surgical procedures and outcomes among elderly hospitalized patients with and without type 2 diabetes in Spain (2001–2013)

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2017
Background Several studies have reported that diabetic persons have an increased risk for fractures than non-diabetes patients. The association between proximal humerus fractures and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is unclear and some studies point to insulin ...

Refixation stability in shoulder hemiarthroplasty in case of four-part proximal humeral fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Primary stability of refixated fractures in case of shoulder hemiarthroplasty is a prerequisite to restore physiological glenohumeral joint function. Clinical observations often show a secondary dislocation and subsequent resorption of the bony anchor ...

Temporary transarticular stabilization with locking compression plate for the treatment of traumatic glenohumeral luxation in 10 dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to describe the surgical technique, and the short to medium clinical outcome of dogs treated with temporary glenohumeral joint (GHJ) stabilization following traumatic luxation. Study Design Short case series.

No incidence of glenohumeral joint dislocation in a review of 220 paediatric proximal humerus fractures

open access: yesJournal of Children's Orthopaedics, 2018
Purpose Proximal humerus fractures in adults are approached with a high suspicion for potential associated glenohumeral dislocation. Axillary views of the shoulder can be painful and possibly even lead to dynamic angulation of the proximal humerus ...
