Fractures of the proximal humerus
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 1999Proximal humeral fractures are common particularly in the elderly. The decision of the optimal treatment is dependent on many factors. On the one hand the biological age of the patient and the bone structure plays a key-role, on the other hand the living conditions and individual needs are of importance. Most fractures with minimal displacement respond

Fractures of the proximal humerus are common. A relatively large number of these injuries will heal with nonoperative treatment without major residual pain or functional loss. However, internal fixation or arthroplasty leads to a much better outcome for selected fractures.

The epidemiology of fractures of the proximal humerus
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 1989Sevenhundred and thirty proximal humeral fractures, taken from a 5-year period, were entered in this study. We found a higher total incidence rate than that previously seen: 73/100,000 population. Twenty-nine percent of the patients required hospitalization; 75% of these were over 60 years old.

Fractures of the proximal humerus in children
La Chirurgia degli Organi di Movimento, 2008Ninety-one children who had been treated for fractures of the proximal humerus (59 metaphyseal fractures; 32 epiphyseal fractures) from 1980 to 1992 at an average age of 10.7 years (range 3 to 14 years) were reviewed. In 82 cases a nonsurgical treatment (Desault bandage in 11 cases, hanging cast in nine cases, closed reduction and shoulder spica cast ...

The treatment of fractures of the proximal humerus
Archives of Orthopaedic and Traumatic Surgery, 1980Fractures of the proximal humerus, which can not be kept in place after reposition--and therefore not acceptable for conservative treatment--can be sufficiently fixed by a thin and long Rush-pin percutaneously introduced. So the damaged arm can be moved early. No inflammation and no pseudarthrosis was observed in 124 cases. The follow up examination of

Fractures of the Proximal Humerus in Adults
The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1985Fractures of the proximal humerus are a common upper-extremity injury, particularly in the elderly. The literature suggests that the results of treatment of displaced fractures are generally unsatisfactory. Since Neer's articles in 1970 we found little reported in the literature on these fractures.

Comminuted Fractures of the Proximal Humerus
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1988Difficulty in fully defining the injury, patient characteristics, osteoporosis, technically difficult surgery, the need for carefully supervised physiotherapy, and the realization that a poor initial result is very difficult to reconstruct make the comminuted fracture of the proximal humerus a problem fracture.

Treatment of Proximal Humerus Fractures
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 2007The majority of proximal humerus fractures are treated nonoperatively with good functional results. Multiple options exist for treating displaced fractures, without a clear advantage of any one method for a given fracture type. Goals include an adequate reduction and stable fixation to initiate early motion and rehabilitation. Decision-making should be

Proximal humerus fractures: editorial
European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology, 2017Proximal humerus fractures are characterized by their frequency, the difficulties and the absence of treatment of reference. New means of osteosynthesis appeared since the years 2000, as well as the preferential recourse to the reversed prostheses of shoulder. A chapter is dedicated to classifications, as a whole not very reproducible.

Proximal humeral fractures are the third most common fragility fracture and it account for 5–9% of all fractures [1, 2]. Proximal humerus fractures have a dual age distribution occurs either young people following high energy trauma or in those older than 50 years with low velocity injuries like simple fall [3].
