Magnetoacoustic proximity sensor

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1988
A new form of proximity sensor is described which enables sensing of magnetic and/or metallic objects over an extended region of space. The time-varying magnetic field necessary for proximity sensing is provided by a strain wave propagating at acoustic velocity in a waveguide composed of magnetized magnetostrictive material. The propagating strain wave

A Proximity Sensor for the Steering Wheel Based on Leaky Coaxial Cable

IEEE Sensors Journal, 2020
A practical readily embeddable proximity sensor based on a leaky coaxial cable (LCX) is proposed for detecting the presence and position of hands on a steering wheel. Different LCX configurations are analyzed both numerically and experimentally.

Scaling down an inductive proximity sensor

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1996
Abstract We analyse the problem of scaling down an inductive proximity sensor made of superposed multiple-turn flat coils. We scale down linearly all the geometrical dimensions. Then the nominal inductance is scaled down proportionally to the scale factor. The coupling factor of the superposed coils remains constant.

Contact transition control by adjusting emitting energy of proximity sensor

Adv. Robotics, 2020
This paper proposes a control method to handle a state transition between a non-contact state and a contact state. The method is based on only force control instead of switching strategy between position control and force control.

Ultra-Low Power Human Proximity Sensor Using Electrostatic Induction

IEEE Sensors Journal, 2020
This paper presents an ultra-low power human proximity sensor using electrostatic induction. The analytical model of electrostatic induction current generated by human motion is derived and verified with measurement results. Based on the analytical model,
