Assessing causal associations between neurodegenerative diseases and neurological tumors with biological aging: a bidirectional Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2023
BackgroundAging is a significant risk factor for many neurodegenerative diseases and neurological tumors. Previous studies indicate that the frailty index, facial aging, telomere length (TL), and epigenetic aging clock acceleration are commonly used ...

Conditions of Confinement in U.S. Carceral Facilities During COVID-19: Individuals Speak?Incarcerated During the COVID-19 Epidemic

open access: yesHealth Equity, 2023
Objectives: We aimed to describe conditions of confinement among people incarcerated in the United States during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic using a community-science data collection approach. Methods: We developed a web-based survey

Statistical Analysis of Message Delay in SIP Proxy Server

open access: yesJournal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2014
Single hop delay of SIP message going through SIP proxy server operating in carriers backbone network is being analyzed. Results indicate that message sojourn times inside SIP server in most cases do not exceed order of tens of milliseconds (99% of all SIP-I messages experience less than 21 ms of sojourn delay) but there were observed very large delays

Inter-rater agreement of the Quality of Life-Alzheimer’s Disease (QoL-AD) self-rating and proxy rating scale: secondary analysis of RightTimePlaceCare data

open access: yesHealth and Quality of Life Outcomes, 2018
Background To assess the quality of life of people with dementia, measures are required for self-rating by the person with dementia, and for proxy rating by others.

Building Statistical Proxy Models for CO2 Geologic Sequestration

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2014
AbstractWe compare two approaches for building a statistical proxy model (metamodel) for CO2 geologic sequestration from the results of full-physics compositional simulations. The first approach involves a classical Box-Behnken experimental design with a quadratic polynomial response surface.

Proxy Expenditure Weights for Consumer Price Index: Audit Sampling Inference for Big-Data Statistics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A: Statistics in Society, 2020
AbstractPurchase data from retail chains can provide proxy measures of private household expenditure on items that are the most troublesome to collect in the traditional expenditure survey. Due to the inevitable coverage and selection errors, bias must exist in these proxy measures.

Detecting instabilities in tree-ring proxy calibration [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2010
Evidence has been found for reduced sensitivity of tree growth to temperature in a number of forests at high northern latitudes and alpine locations. Furthermore, at some of these sites, emergent subpopulations of trees show negative growth trends with ...

Global comparison of cancer outcomes: standardization and correlation with healthcare expenditures

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2019
Background Cancer outcomes vary widely among different countries. However, comparisons of cost-effectiveness and cost-efficiency of different systems are complex because the incidences of different cancers vary across countries and their chances of cure ...

A statistical framework for integrating nonparametric proxy distributions into geological reconstructions of relative sea level [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Statistical Climatology, Meteorology and Oceanography, 2022
Abstract. Robust, proxy-based reconstructions of relative sea-level (RSL) change are critical to distinguishing the processes that drive spatial and temporal sea-level variability. The relationships between individual proxies and RSL can be complex and are often poorly represented by traditional methods that assume Gaussian likelihood distributions. We

A few prospective ideas on climate reconstruction: from a statistical single proxy approach towards a multi-proxy and dynamical approach [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2009
Abstract. Important progresses have been made in palaeoclimatological studies by using statistical methods. But they are in somewhere limited as they take the present as an absolute reference. This is particularly true for the modern analogue technique.
