Social vulnerability shapes deep clinical phenotypes and brain health in aging and dementia across Latin America

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Adverse social conditions across the life course influence brain aging and dementia, yet their compounded impact on clinical phenotypes remains underexplored, particularly in Latin America, where social inequality and dementia burden are high.

Cortical gray–white matter contrast alterations precede amyloid‐β positivity and macrostructural changes in older adults without dementia

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Early Alzheimer's disease (AD) involves subtle cortical changes that may precede atrophy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) microstructural markers may detect earlier pathology than classical morphometry. METHODS We analyzed cross‐sectional MRI and amyloid‐β (Aβ) positron emission tomography (PET) data from 1323 non‐demented AMYPAD

Wild Seasons, Urban Stasis: Anthropogenic Food Subsidies Buffer Seasonal Dietary Shifts for Coyotes (Canis latrans) in a Wildland‐Urban Landscape South of Mexico City

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Coyote populations are expanding into urban areas, and this study examines how their diet adapts along a gradient from conserved to human‐modified habitats. Mammals dominated the diet at both sites, and there was no significant difference in annual dietary diversity between the conserved and modified areas.

Epistemic opacity in Antarctic science: Unknowing the last frontier

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 1641-1647, June 2026.
Abstract Antarctica is facing intensifying pressures from climate change, industrial fishing, tourism and renewed geopolitical competition, even as scientific activity on the continent reaches unprecedented levels. We argue that this proliferation of research often fails to deliver the integrated, policy‐relevant knowledge needed for precautionary ...
