Black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) is an important spice. The adulteration of black pepper seeds and powder with papaya seeds, green chili and red chili can be seen and limited studies have been conducted to detect these adulterants. The objectives of the present study were to assess the appropriateness of morphometric methods to discriminate papaya seed ...

DNA barcoding is a fast-developing technique to identify species by using short and standard DNA sequences. Universal selection of DNA barcodes in ferns remains unresolved. In this study, five plastid regions (rbcL, matK, trnH-psbA, trnL-F and rps4-trnS)

A phylogenetic study of Korean Iris L. based on plastid DNA (psbA-trnH, trnL-F) sequences
Molecular phylogenetic studies were conducted to evaluate taxonomic identities and relationships among 16 species of the korean genus Iris L. Korean Iris was grouped by five clades. Series Laevigatae, Trip- etalae, Laevigatae and Sibiricae was included to Clade I. Series Chinensis, and Easatae was composed to Clade II.

Trait evolution and the coexistence of a species swarm in the tropical forest understory [PDF]
Part of PhD Dissertation of Brian Sedio. The paper also incorporates J. Wright's long term ecological data on Psychotria from BCI.1. A small number of species rich plant genera make a substantial contribution to the alpha diversity of tropical forests ...

DNA barcoding as a molecular tool to track down mislabeling and food piracy [PDF]
DNA barcoding is a molecular technology that allows the identification of any biological species by amplifying, sequencing and querying the information from genic and/or intergenic standardized target regions belonging to the extranuclear genomes ...

First molecular phylogenetic insights into the evolution of Eriocaulon (Eriocaulaceae, Poales) [PDF]
Eriocaulon is a genus of c. 470 aquatic and wetland species of the monocot plant family Eriocaulaceae. It is widely distributed in Africa, Asia and America, with centres of species richness in the tropics.

Recent studies indicate that the discriminatory power of the core DNA barcodes (rbcLa + matK) for land plants may have been overestimated since their performance have been tested only on few closely related species. In this study we focused mainly on how
