Primary sclerosing cholangitis and pancreatic cancer: A retrospective cohort study of United States veterans

open access: yesFrontiers in Gastroenterology, 2023
Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is associated with hepatobiliary and colorectal cancers, but it remains uncertain if PSC increases the risk for pancreatic cancer.

Desingularizing positive scalar curvature 4-manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesMath. Ann. (2024), 2019
We show that the bordism group of closed 3-manifolds with positive scalar curvature (psc) metrics is trivial by explicit methods. Our constructions are derived from scalar-flat K{\"a}hler ALE surfaces discovered by Lock-Viaclovsky. Next, we study psc 4-manifolds with metric singularities along points and embedded circles.

Linee guida per lo sviluppo di modelli numerici di flusso in acquiferi porosi: Una proposta IRSA-ISPRA

open access: yesAcque Sotterranee, 2019

Pathogenesis and Management of Pruritus in PBC and PSC [PDF]

open access: yesDigestive Diseases, 2015
Pruritus is a preeminent symptom in patients with chronic cholestatic liver disorders such as primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. More than two-thirds of these patients experience itching during the course of their disease.

Stellate cells from rat pancreas are stem cells and can contribute to liver regeneration. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The identity of pancreatic stem/progenitor cells is still under discussion. They were suggested to derive from the pancreatic ductal epithelium and/or islets.

Physicochemical and Fibril Formation Properties of Pufferfish (Takifugu obscurus) Skin Collagen from Solvent Extraction in Different Conditions

open access: yesGels, 2022
Acid-solubilized (ASC) and pepsin-solubilized collagen (PSC) extracted at 4 °C (ASC-4 and PSC-4), 12 °C (ASC-12 and PSC-12), and 20 °C (ASC-20 and PSC-20) from the skin of farmed pufferfish (Takifugu obscurus) was characterized by SDS-polyacrylamide gel ...

Observational studies of pre-stellar cores and infrared dark clouds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Stars like our Sun and planets like our Earth form in dense regions within interstellar molecular clouds, called pre-stellar cores (PSCs). PSCs provide the initial conditions in the process of star and planet formation. In the past 15 years, detailed observations of (low-mass) PSCs in nearby molecular cloud complexes have allowed us to find that they ...

Multi-drug resistance and reduced susceptibility to ciprofloxacin among Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi isolates from the Middle East and Central Asia

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2014
Typhoid fever is common in developing countries, with an estimated 120 million infections and 700 000 annual deaths, worldwide. Fluoroquinolones have been the treatment of choice for infection with multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella enterica serovar ...

CALIPSO observations of wave-induced PSCs with near-unity optical depth over Antarctica in 2006-2007 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research 114 (2009) D05202, 2009
Ground-based and satellite observations have hinted at the existence of polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) with relatively high optical depths, even if optical depth values are hard to come by. This study documents a type II PSC observed from spaceborne lidar, with visible optical depths up to 0.8. Comparisons with multiple temperature fields, including

The Impact of Concomitant Ulcerative Colitis on the Clinical Course in Patients with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis: An Investigation Using a Nationwide Database in Japan

open access: yesInflammatory Intestinal Diseases, 2023
Introoduction: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a rare disease, especially in Asian countries. PSC often develops during ulcerative colitis (UC). Little is known about the severity of PSC in patients with UC.
