Pseudo - first - order phase transitions in one dimension
Physical Review A, 1974The effect of fluctuations on a Landau-Ginzburg model of a first-order phase transition in one dimension is studied. Extremely sharp pseudotransitions can be obtained. The critical region or width of the transition is found to vanish exponentially with the effective number of interacting units across a cross section of the system.

Analytical Biochemistry, 1997We have developed an in vitro system for the determination of peptidyltransferase activity in rabbit reticulocyte ribosomes. Using this system, a detailed kinetic analysis of a model reaction for peptidyltransferase is described, with AcPhe-tRNA as the peptidyl donor and puromycin as the acceptor.

The pseudo-first-order Stark effect and the orientation of HXeI molecules
Journal of Modern Optics, 2003We show that the gas-phase HXeI molecules can be strongly oriented via a pseudo-first-order Stark effect. This occurs owing to combined electrostatic and non-resonant laser fields acting synergically on the induced and permanent dipole moments of the molecule.

Pseudo-first-order phase transitions in one dimension
Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1979A study is made of the one-dimensional Ginzburg-Landau system with a cubic term, a model of the first-order phase transition. Fluctuations are taken into account by means of the WKB method. It is pointed out that the transition is of continuous type for any value of the coefficient of the cubic term.
