Supervariate Gel Transforms into Various Biominerals in Salt Solutions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 37, September 11, 2025.
It is revealed that common calcium‐based biominerals can form from a stable, non‐toxic ‘supervariate’ gel. This tunable gel selectively yields calcite or hydroxyapatite in carbonate/phosphate solutions, while CaCl₂ facilitates the formation of dihydrate calcium pyrophosphate, which converts to hydroxyapatite upon drying. These findings provide insights

Circulating Fetuin‐A concentrations in rheumatic diseases: a systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 55, Issue 5, May 2025.
In this systematic review with meta‐analysis, we identified 19 eligible studies to determine whether there is any change in Fetuin‐A (FtA) concentrations in patients with rheumatic diseases. We observed a significant decrease in FtA concentrations in RD patients (standardized mean difference, SMD = −.91; 95% CI −1.43 to −.39, p = .001).

Treatment strategies for calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease [PDF]

open access: yesExploration of Musculoskeletal Diseases
Calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD) is a cause of inflammatory arthropathy that increases in prevalence with increasing age, presents in acute and chronic forms, and is characterized by the finding of positively birefringent crystals on ...

Crowned Dens Syndrome Triggered by Dental Treatment

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Crowned dens syndrome (CDS) is an important yet often overlooked cause of fever and neck pain, frequently leading to unnecessary examinations and treatments and misdiagnosis as infectious diseases or rheumatic diseases. The mechanism of an acute attack of CDS is not clarified completely, while it is considered that severe systemic stress can ...

The mechanisms of inflammation in gout and pseudogout (CPP-induced arthritis)

open access: yesReumatismo, 2012
Recent advances have stimulated new interest in the area of crystal arthritis, as microcrystals can be considered to be endogenous “danger signals” and are potent stimulators of immune as well as non-immune cells.

Controversial issues of nomenclature and terminology of calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition disease

open access: yesНаучно-практическая ревматология
Since the discovery in the early 1960s by D.J. McCarty crystals of calcium pyrophosphate in the synovial fluid of a patient with suspected gout, descriptions by D. Zitnan and S.
