Postoperative Pseudophakic Bacterial Endophthalmitis

Five patients who had postoperative pseudophakic bacterial endophthalmitis were treated with topical, periocular, and systemic antibiotics. Four patients also received intravitreal antibiotics and oral corticosteroids. The causative organisms were Staphylococcus epidermidis, S. aureus, and Proteus mirabilis.

[Pseudophakic uveitis].

One of the most important complication in the cataract surgery is the uveitis of the IOL ("toxic lens syndrome"). There are shown the main factors related to the artificial lens, viscoelastic materials and sutures, which may provoke inflammatory reactions. [Pseudophakic keratoplasty].

The author reports on 12 unselected consecutive penetrating keratoplasties performed for pseudophakic bullous keratopathy, in which the intraocular lens was retained. The visual results achieved were significantly better than those in aphakic eyes.
