Fatty acids as a tool to compare cachara (Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum) (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) and hybrid (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans × Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum) larvae during early development

Aquaculture International, 2011
In this study, we investigated the physiological alterations during ontogeny for cachara (Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum) and their hybrid larvae (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans × P. reticulatum) using lipids and fatty acids as physiological tools to elucidate the basis for differences in these groups’ productivity in an industrial setting.

Ontogeny of the digestive system and the profile of proteases in larvae of cachara (Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) and its hybrid (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans × Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum)

Journal of Fish Biology, 2021
AbstractThe development of the digestive system and digestive proteases was studied in cachara (Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum) and its hybrid (P. reticulatum × Pseudoplatystoma corruscans) during the first 25 days after fertilization. Both groups presented a fast and similar development of the digestive system, and the unspecific alkaline protease ...

Characterization of skin patterns in Pseudoplatystoma Magdaleniatum

2017 Sustainable Internet and ICT for Sustainability (SustainIT), 2017
Pseudoplatystoma Magdaleniatum is one of the most representative fish species from the Magdalena river basin in Colombia. This endemic catfish is highly valuable from the economic and environmental perspectives. Nevertheless, it is currently under threat because of the indiscriminate fishery and the degradation of their ecological niche. Strategies for

Detection of megalocytivirus in Oreochromis niloticus and Pseudoplatystoma corruscans in Brazil

Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2022
The infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV) belongs to the genus Megalocytivirus (MCV), a group of double-stranded DNA genome viruses. The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze samples from suspected foci of MCV infection in freshwater fish in Brazil. Samples were collected from infected fish between 2017 and 2021.

Pharmacokinetic of levamisole in speckled surubimPseudoplatystoma corruscans

Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 2012
Intensification of production systems exposes fish to stress agents, such as poor water quality and crowding, affecting physiological condition of cultured fish, negatively influencing their immune system and increasing susceptibility to microorganism infections (Gopalakannan & Arul, 2006; Sado et al., 2010).

Ovarian differentiation and development in cachara Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum

Journal of Fish Biology, 2016
One thousand five hundred cachara or tiger shovelnose catfish Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum, obtained from induced reproduction, were used to determine the onset of ovarian differentiation and development and to record the main characteristics of this process.

Growth curve comparison of native fish cachara (Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum) and cachapinta hybrid (P. reticulatum × Pseudoplatystoma corruscans)

Aquaculture, 2019
Abstract This study was undertaken to compare the growth curves of native fish cachara (Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum) and of the cachapinta hybrid (P. reticulatum × Pseudoplatystoma corruscans), both reared in net cages. The experiment was carried out for 216 days in net cages that were placed in a 24-ha dam, in a completely randomized experimental ...

Molecular identification of the hybrid between the catfish species Pseudoplatystoma corruscans and Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum using a set of eight microsatellite markers

Journal of Fish Biology, 2013
This study distinguished hybrids of surubim or pintado Pseudoplatystoma corruscans and cachara Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum from pure strains using a set of eight microsatellite markers and population assignment methods. Applications of this molecular tool range from certification of hybrid‐free breeders in restocking conservation programmes to the ...

Generation, characterisation and applicability of a monoclonal antibody to hybrid surubim catfish Pseudoplatystoma corruscans (Agassiz) Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum (Linnaeus) immunoglobulin

Comparative Clinical Pathology, 2004
Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) against hybrid surubim immunoglobulin (IgM) were produced. Screening, with an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), revealed three probes: PSIg 10, PSIg 13 and PSIg 28 specifically reacting to surubim IgM. No species cross-reactivity was found.
