Abstract Attempts were made to isolate mycorrhizal fungi of a timber species, Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco which is exotic to New ZeaLond. Over 2000 pieces of mycorrhizal roots were plated out on Hagem medium and modified Melin-Norkrans medium; 14% of these yielded Rhizopogon vinicolor A. H. Technological characteristics of Pseudotsuga menziesii growing in Valdivia

This study analizes some of the physical and mechanical properties of Douglas-fir trees from three stands located on the coast of the province of Valdivia, Chile. Specific gravity, skrinkage, tracheid length, compression parallel to grain, static bending, hardness Janka and nail withdrawal were determined.
