Mutualism and predation have contrasting effects on the diversity of pine canopy arthropod communities

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract Predators are recognized to increase prey diversity by suppressing competitively dominant species, whereas mutualists are predicted to reduce diversity by promoting a competitively dominant partner. However, this trend, and the effect of these interactions when they cooccur, remains underexplored.

Robot‐Aided Measurement of Insect Diversity on Vegetation Using Environmental DNA

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2025.
We developed a novel method combining drone‐based sampling and environmental DNA (eDNA) with Oxford Nanopore sequencing to monitor insect biodiversity on vegetation. Using a DJI Matrice 3 drone, we collected eDNA samples from grassland, shrub and forest habitats in Switzerland, detecting 64 insect taxa and revealing habitat‐specific differences in ...

Data incongruence and the problem of avian louse phylogeny [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Recent studies based on different types of data (i.e. morphological and molecular) have supported conflicting phylogenies for the genera of avian feather lice (Ischnocera: Phthiraptera).

New records and descriptions of mediterranean Psocoptera (Psocoptera)

open access: yesDeutsche Entomologische Zeitschrift (neue Folge), 1989
Recent collecting trips to Southern Spain and Morocco have resulted in the capture of some very interesting Psocoptera species, two of which are new to science: Mesopsocus andalusicus sp. n. and Trichadenotecnum maroccanum sp. n. The affinities between the latter and its closest congener, T. gallicum Lienhard, 1986, whose male is also described for the

Micronutrients are drivers of abundance, richness, and composition of soil insect communities in tropical rainforests

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract Communities of soil insects in tropical rainforests are among the richest and most complex, but the mechanisms structuring them remain mostly unknown. Identifying whether nutrient availability plays a relevant role in the assembly of these communities poses several challenges due to the diverse nutritional requirements of insects.

Divergent responses of insectivorous bats and flying insects to experimental LED illumination of different spectra

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract Artificial light at night poses a global threat to biodiversity and is increasing at a rate greater than any other pollutant. We conducted a field experiment to investigate the effects of short‐term nighttime illumination on nocturnal flying insects and insectivorous bats in previously unlit remnant bushland.

New records of Psocoptera (Insecta) from Vietnam

open access: yesHistoria Naturalis Bulgarica
This study presents novel findings on the Psocoptera (Insecta) fauna of Vietnam, contributing to the understanding of biodiversity in the region. Psocoptera specimens were collected from Tam Dao National Park during October 2023, adding 19 new species to

Storage Method for ‘Psocoptera’ (Insecta: Psocodea) in “CD Box”

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis, 2016
. The use of a “CD box” adapted to the storage of slides, and other body parts of dissected psocopterans was proposed. Um Método de Armazenamento para Psocoptera (Insecta: Psocodea) em Caixa de CD Resumo.
